My Background

In my 25 years leading or consulting with marketing departments exclusively at B2B technology companies, I have worked with firms in numerous industries and target audiences, with diverse go-to-market strategies and at various stages of growth. Most were start-ups, or small to medium-sized businesses. 

I’ve had 3 exits, where the company was acquired by a larger industry player. The majority are scaling with high growth trajectories. One never really achieved product market fit. If I were a VC, it would be a strong record.

Why I Started Boon

Throughout my career, I received cold emails and telemarketing calls from hundreds if not thousands of vendors offering their services to help improve both the strategic plans and tactical marketing activities, for the companies I worked at over these years. 

Not once did I receive an offer for marketing auditing services. 

I did work with several full-service B2B marketing agencies, which, as part of their initial on-boarding process, conducted a discovery process, which is similar to an audit. This one-time discovery process was not the focus of the business, and mainly served to provide the initial direction of their strategic planning and tactical implementation services. It was limited in scope to areas that fit within the menu of the services they offered.

Again, I was never contacted by an independent marketing auditing firm, focused on providing a comprehensive and systematic approach to identifying B2B marketing strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. I went ahead and spoke to numerous colleagues in the marketing field and all agreed – there was a gap that I could fill.
